Mass Rapid Transit system (MRTS)

The First phase of Mass Rapid Transit system (MRTS) planned for Delhi includes an underground metro corridor of about 11 kilometers length.  This has 10 stations, bored tunnels and cut & cover tunnels.  This paper describes in brief, some of the methods used in the construction of the 10 underground stations.
The construction methods (cut-and cover method) of underground stations depend to a large extent on the geological profile of the area when the stations are located.  The geological profile of the underground Delhi-Metro passed through rock and alluvium.

These are the methods/innovation which have been used in this project.  Only some very important methods have been described above.  There methods have helped in transforming the technology to the engineers, supervisors and to the local contractors and will go a long way in redifining construction management.
